When I was in elementary school, I remember being told the importance of critical thinking. The questions posed under the “critical thinking” guise were always more difficult and took more time, but they allowed for a greater range of creative answers than a normal academic question. This was the purpose of critical thinking.
It seems that Louisiana, with the passage of the “Academic Freedom” bill, wants to redefine the word to serve a Christian agenda.

It’s not often that one finds religious quotation on Crispy Quips, but the other day I found a beautifully written piece by Bishop Catherine Roskam concerning western relations with Africa and the situation that much outside influence has created. A short quotation from this wonderful piece follows.
I am sorry, Africa.
Of all the places we have exploited - and we have exploited many - it is only from you that we have also stolen the people.
I would strongly encourage everyone to browse to “Blane,” a blog written by a Rhodesian which has a copy of Roskam’s transcript… amazingly appropriate considering that Rhodesia itself no longer exists due to the strife of Africa.

As I walked to my first class this morning, I was approached by a man wielding a small green book.
Oh God. Gideons.
He asked me politely if I wanted the New Testament. I told him “sure, thank you,” and continued on my way. It wasn’t until later that I realized the immense (and probably purposeful) irony of Christians handing out scriptures on Halloween. How wholly amusing.
No harm, no foul, though. One man giving me a free book is certainly not something to complain about. I went on to my class in peace.
When I emerged from the lecture hall, however, there was yet another man holding out a small green book. He pointed it at me. “Would you take a New Testament from me?” he asked. I was tempted. Maybe I could’ve started a collection. I politely told him no, and continued through the crowd.

Way back when, I posted a story about Answers in Genesis, a Christian propaganda site all about how science is wrong and Earth is only 6,000-years-old. Anyway, I was a bit bored, so I decided to have a little fun with the nice little Christians at Answers in Genesis.
I noticed that none of their articles (and I do mean none) allow for commenting by users. Even articles labeled “feedback” are just collections of pro-Creationist babbling from Church-goers. The site, which claims to be scientific in nature, does not allow any opposing viewpoint to be posted.
After a bit of searching, I finally found (at the bottom of a page) a way to contact those who work at the site, and I took matters into my own hands.

When one mentions “Red China,” or specifically the China under Chairman Mao Tse Tung, several images and events come to mind. The abhorrent loss of culture may be one of them. Perhaps recollected by even more people is China’s invasion of Tibet some fifty years ago.
It was that invasion, and the subsequent Chinese anti-religious sentiment, that drove Tenzin Gyatso, otherwise known as His Holiness the Fourteenth Dalai Lama, from his native land.
He is still in exile.
But as if that wasn’t enough, the Chinese government is now trying to control more than his place of residence; they now want to control his reincarnation. Or perhaps I should say, for effect, his soul.

A quick browse through the “Creation Museum” website will eventually bring you to some page hosted on “Answers In Genesis”, a site that is supposedly dedicated to discussion concerning Creation Museum-esque pseudo-science.
However, one thing about “Answers In Genesis” will stand out to seasoned Internet debaters. The site does not offer public commenting, and so does not actually offer any discussion at all.
The site is filled with articles about “the Word of God” trouncing any scientific evidence, and the Bible being (quite untruthfully) admissible scientific evidence. However, the site does not allow the public to offer their opinion on the subjects covered in their articles, which, in my opinion, shows the site’s inability to effectively counter-argue against hard science.

Here’s the deal. There are a great many benefits of a religious lifestyle.
Let me start by reminding the reader that “religion” does not necessarily mean “christianity.” This term is inclusive to ALL religions, not just a single one.
Religion can raise one’s quality of life. When a person decides to strive for a more spiritual or religious lifestyle, they generally feel better about themselves than they would have had they not pursued their beliefs.
As a general observation, those who are “born into” religion do not seem to care as much about it as those who “find” it. It’s the Catholic Schoolgirl syndrome: if you are restricted by religion, and thus have no chance for personal experimentation, you will grow to dislike it. However, if you find religion as a way to redefine your way of life, then you will care for it, always.

Yet more stupidity spews from the creationists: according to them, Evolutionists don’t debate fairly, and that’s why bible-thumpers always lose anti-creationist arguments.
The “Creation Museum,” a model of christian idiocy, seems to be associated with another organization, Answers In Genesis. On this site, there are numerous articles ranging from dinosaurs and humans walking together to scientists “finding faith through the Lord.” One of my personal favorite piles of grammatical rubbish, however, is entitled “Where’s the Proof?”
This article aims to explain, ultimately, why Creationism is right and Evolution is wrong. Luckily, as with most articles written on Creationism, it is extremely easy to disprove.
