Better underground music through linguistics.

August 17, 2007

Ah, China.

They make a lot of stuff. In fact (in America, at least), it is very difficult to find anything that doesn’t bear the omnipresent “Made in China” embossing on its underside.

There is perhaps one thing that the world’s favorite capita-ommunist state is not famous for at all: Indie Rock. Especially Indie Rock of the underground, anti-establishment type.

Surprisingly, such Chinese exports do exist. But just how do Chinese Indie bands like “Rebuilding the Rights of Statues” (or their acronym “RE-TROS”) get rebellious music past government censors?

Rammstein’s voice going solo? [updated, hoax]

July 16, 2007

File this one under unconfirmed rumors: lead singer Till Lindemann of German band Rammstein may be leaving the band to pursue a solo career.

Please note: This is completely UNCONFIRMED and there is NO OFFICIAL EVIDENCE WHATSOEVER that this may be happening.

However, as many fan sites seem to be speculating on the same facts, I felt it necessary to file a post indicating the possibility.

From Rammstein fan-site herzeleid.com:

“Many sites are reporting that Till will leave the band after the next studio album (such as Blabbermouth.net). They claim he is leaving due to problems in the band and would like to start a solo carrier or a new project. En Esch of KMFDM and Slick Idiot fame would replace him.”

…Not that anyone could really replace Till.

Time will tell if this rumor contains any spark of truth.

[update] This story has since been disproved, due to no official release from Rammsten.de, the official band website.  The hoax appears to have originated at blabbermouth.net, and has since been removed from that site.

Rammstein working on a new album.

June 25, 2007

German super-band Rammstein are working on a new album, sources at Pilgrim Management say.

The band had been “taking a vacation,” according to earlier reports, but when asked if Rammstein would be touring at all this year, the management company said no, to make time for “writing songs.”

The Band Raged On.

April 3, 2007

Yes, after seven long years, Rage Against the Machine is reuniting (or so it would seem). The band is now playing a total of four (4) shows in 2007: (according to culturebully.com)

“April 29 - Coachella, July 28th - New York, NY, August 11th - San Bernardino, CA, August 18th - San Francisco, CA”

The Quippy part: As I have heard numerous people say over the last couple of weeks, the world (or more specifically the United States - or so it’s called) has gone to shit in the seven years since they’ve been gone, so maybe with the “voice of rebellion” back, things will start to look up.

Here’s looking forward to August 18th ;)
