Quarter starts soon
September 5, 2011
Looking forward to getting back in the swing of things, this time with a few more projects at hand.
The uncertainty of life is killing me. My field is not one known for easy careers; I’m trying to stay as diverse as possible to maximize my marketability when the time comes. Still, there’s always the thought in the back of my mind that I’ll end up unemployed and unemployable — although, it’s admittedly unlikely given my circumstances.

I’m not in any way wishing you ill, and in fact I’m kind of pleased that SOMEONE has reason for optimism regarding future emplooyment… but I’m wondering what those ‘circumstances’ are to which you allude.
My current educational program leaves me with a doctorate and no debt. Theoretically, I could completely change professions after the fact and not be in a poor situation. That is my worst case scenario (although, I’m less and less worried about the job prospects once I complete my program).
Part of my optimism is that (without going into too much detail) I’m in a position to increase my marketability by having a diverse collection of research under my belt. The areas that I am diversifying with are actually showing positive growth, even in this economy, so I should be in decent shape.
Ah. I congratulate you on your planning!
